Yeah, it "punishes" those of us who have made it here, but it helps other people make it here too, and without others making it to our level of wealth the wealthy can't find buyers to sell their wares to. We should want thy neighbor to do better once we've done well enough for ourselves. In your case Michael, I'm your neighbor, and I want you to do better, and I am willing to pay more taxes to help people like you pay less till you are here -- then we together will help the next family and ultimately our whole country. That's how we eliminate poverty, make it so it doesn't make more sense financially to beg on the side of the road than it does to work at the Jack In The Box.
