  • Obama plans to keep taxes the same or cut them for much of the lower-middle class and raise them for people in the triple digit range. That only helps those of us who don't have triple digit salaries to get there. It gives nothing to people who aren't working at all, but those who are starving because they make minimum wage get to keep more of their money.

Yeah, it "punishes" those of us who have made it here, but it helps other people make it here too, and without others making it to our level of wealth the wealthy can't find buyers to sell their wares to. We should want thy neighbor to do better once we've done well enough for ourselves. In your case Michael, I'm your neighbor, and I want you to do better, and I am willing to pay more taxes to help people like you pay less till you are here -- then we together will help the next family and ultimately our whole country. That's how we eliminate poverty, make it so it doesn't make more sense financially to beg on the side of the road than it does to work at the Jack In The Box.
  • Yes, I'm all for helping ones neighbor, but I don't believe that doing it via government redistribution is the way to get it done.

For example, you have helped me by teaching and educating me how to be better in my field. You're helping another friend of yours by educating them on their trade.

Helping your "brother" doesn't mean having the government do it.
